LEARN MORE ABOUT 780 KENNELS START TO FINISH.

Legend has it 780 Kennels was founded in Greater Edmonton by pet care bears managing learning curves for dog aggression & dog reactivity with rehoming & euthanasia alternatives.

Since 2010 pet guardians of the galaxy and other dog enthusiasts enjoy free land, time, & space, gifted by our original grizzly bears (a.k.a. O.G.'s) sharing their soft winnie-the-pooh under-bellies once safe to do so.

15+ years ago our adopted pets inspired us to benefit animal well-being by teaming up with local emergency responses, rescuing needs, dog sporting passions, & learning curves.

Although our rescue canines were labelled as dog aggressive & people selective, they were successfully adopted to our home and lived cohesively, ready-to-please.

Adopting our homeless pets and learning their special needs wasn't flawless but doggies are very forgiving and happy to help anyone willing to learn.

Soon, we had a whole pack of ex-strays which required us to quit our day jobs and commit further to the innocent critters.

That's how we fostered a haven of protection in the Edmonton area code (780) while renting an old kennel property from the 1970's we fondly refer to as “Olde 780” a.k.a. “The Dungeon”.

We entered the saturated market with a sub-par dog housing “gauntlet” design coupled with our working dog experience to specialize in “Large, Aggressive, & Rescue Dogs” kennelling or obedience.

With kennel pricing at $20 per day and heavily discounted lessons for rescue dogs, 780 was the cheapest and only option for the bucking broncos that didn't always play nice.

Also, sharing how-to-manage charming dog personalities through leadership lifestyle principles rather than selling “rehabilitation” or hiding “tough decisions” with “no-kill” propaganda, made us popular.

Very popular with high-drive breeds, pet guardians seeking help, and legit dog rescues.

But very un-popular with drive-by dog trainers, soon-to-be-obsolete-design kennels, and rescue rangers that were one-step-away-from-a-nervous-break-down.

Olde 780's traditional kennel design inspired us to improve the industry's standard from general long term animal confinement to human-grade housing with enrichment options for canines.

So that our new amenities would compliment our zany commitment to pet guardians of the galaxy while offering new kennel services such as puppy classes, day training, or send-away programs.

But we didn't have a million dollars...

Eventually all dogs go to heaven, so, our pack left specific instructions to continue their good works and how-to-build “New 780”.

If you build it, they will come, all thanks to Lucky, Jabba, Beau, Shadow, Sparta, & Mickey, with their open invitation for all pet enthusiasts to partner with 780.

So if you're interested, here's 8 benefits of collaborating with 780:

Canine Lodging Allowances.

780's sanctuary donates 1 free daily canine room & board with cheaper rates for additional intakes, and 50% off our regular rate for fostered & adopted pets - as per Lucky's instructions - to dog rescues.

This helps organizations get accurate temperament assessments before re-homing a more difficult doggy.

Lux, aka Hound, aka Houndsy, was happy-go-lucky, learning his manners through constant repetition until you gave up.

He was the perfect example of alpha; nothing to prove; he just was; but don't try to trim his nails or take him to the vet.

Lux was adopted from the Delta Community Animal Shelter and helped us learn how to provide safe canine mingling, especially for the large breeds.

"Accurate temperament assessments help us understand their needs which is invaluable for proper home placement."
- Pitbulls for Life Foundation of Alberta.

LUCKY'S ALLOWANCES.

• 1 free spot for rescue partners
• Cheaper rates for additional intakes
• 50% off boarding rates for fostered & adopted pets
• Accurate temperament assessments
• Euthanasia alternative
• Off-the-record behavior analysis
• Lower canine housing costs etc
• Aids daily decision making

Subsidized Adult Dog Lessons.

780's dog enthusiasts subsidize adult dog lessons for $25 per ½ hr for boarded & fostered canines, also, 50% off training hrs for adopted dogs - as per Jabba's instructions - to dog rescues.

This helps organizations keep costs down, before & after adoption.

Jabs, aka Jabba the Hut, aka Jabsy, was very food motivated, naturally, she raided food bins until bloated beyond measure.

She came to us obese but through healthy diet and exercise; shedding her winter weight; she chased little prey into submission.

Jabba was adopted from the Maple Ridge SPCA and helped us learn how to lead pack cohesiveness through a dominant female mitigating multiple male canines.

"Many trainers and experienced behaviourists haven't been able to provide what 780 can."
- Second Chance Animal Rescue Society.

JABBA'S SUBSIDIES.

• $25 lessons for boarded & fostered canines
• 50% off training hrs for adopted dogs
• Lowers need for owner surrenders
• Dog savviness for fosters & adopters

This helps all emergency responders reduce expenses when on-call 24/7.

Member benefits include: 1 free day of board & 1 free ½ hr training lesson per month, price freezes on all training & boarding rates (don't let membership lapse), and more!

Beau, aka Beausy, aka Baw-dee, deteriorated quickly while in the shelter environment, developing dog reactivity, & re-directed handler aggression.

However, he was successfully integrated into our pack by on-going rehabilitation with the Canadian Search & Disaster Dogs Association.

Brodie, renamed Beau, was adopted from the Delta Community Animal Shelter, and helped us understand that all high-drive breeds need a career, with a detailed job description, that's implemented by their team leader.

"780 understands the different ages, breeds, sizes, and various needs of all the dogs..."
- 4H Alberta.

Puppy School Grants.

780's dog enthusiasts award puppy school grants for 50% off tuition to first responders & pet rescue adopters - as per Shadow's instructions - also, fosters with puppies 8weeks-5months old can register for free!

This helps families get the best early education while saving money.

Also, any puppy in the YEG area registered with 780's puppy school can transition to $1 honorary membership!

This helps all puppy enthusiasts try out membership with no-risk.

Wazzy, aka, Shazzy, aka Wazz, cared for his wheelchair-bound grandmother until the family got a divorce and they "didn't want the dog around as a reminder".

He was surrendered to the local shelter, and quickly garnered a reputation as the sheriff; policing doggies during play time.

Shadow was adopted from the Delta Community Animal Shelter and helped us learn how to monitor group canine interaction to ensure safe social imprinting for pups.

"Over time Marvin has been able to overcome many of his fears, obey countless commands, play with other dogs, and becomes friends with strangers all the time."
- Pawsitive Match Rescue Foundation.

SHADOW'S GRANTS.

• 50% off first responder puppies
• 50% off adopted pups

Free Land Authorization.

780's sanctuary may authorize free land use to local dog sport associations, registered charities, certified dog trainers, government agencies, societies, & other pet enthusiasts - as per Sparta's instructions.

Land use provides a unique marketing message while networking, raising awareness, fundraising, providing education, etc.

Dog sport groups can use our land to provide workshops, host events, and have fun.

Most popular is beginner's agility workshops/lessons utilizing the outdoor fenced dog parks and green space.

Dog rescue charities utilize our land for adoption events, volunteer appreciation days, fundraising, and more.

Most popular are outdoor Spring and Fall volunteer appreciation BBQ's.

A consistent yearly/semi-annual venue rather than relocating each time, helps plan successful events.

Certified Dog trainers can offer services, host seminars, run workshops, educate, & practice.

Most popular are trainers looking to offer board & train options but need a professional space, rather than their home.

Indoor/outdoor puppy classes in a controlled environment are a big draw, rather than rent space elsewhere.

Second most popular are dog trainer hobbyist's (not hobbits) testing the waters and planting seeds before committing to the major expenses of professional services and leasing agreements.

Meet up groups especially dig our 4 dog parks for safe socializing of small breeds or youngster pups.

50 acres in Parkland County is a peaceful change from the busy City of Edmonton.

Most beneficial is the dog-friendly invitation for all these private events without the headaches of public scenarios.

Folks can even take a break and temporarily house their canines on-site with 780 while attending.

Sparta, aka Beets, aka Beetsy, was a German bloodline Rottenweiler trained in personal protection, but always a silly puppy for Poppa & Momma.

Sparta Von Ruelmann taught us the importance of respecting guardian breeds with sensitive natures that require daily mental & physical enrichment followed by affection.

Never a heavy-hand, nor neglect.

Their personalities & temperaments are often misdiagnosed as “aggressive” or “reactive”.

When they are genetically wired for sound, not a casual stroll down Whye Ave or frolicking at the local dog park.

"This relationship is invaluable to HLH and we are very grateful for the continued support that 780 provides to our dogs and our volunteers."
- Hope Lives Here Animal Rescue Society..

Dog Trainer Mentorship.

780's dog enthusiasts host dog trainer mentorship lessons for aspiring dog trainers and certified dog trainers in the YEG area - as per Micky's instructions.

Sky's the limit when meeting for each ½ hr $25 lesson with our Certified Master Trainer.

Learn something new, shadow our lessons, and get affordable advice when starting a new venture, or progressing to the next level.

Bring your personal dog, help a quirky rescue dog, or get hands-on assistance troubleshooting your existing clients.

Whether aspiring or certified, priority will be given to those currently sponsored/working with a YEG area dog rescue.

Mickey, aka Micks, a senior German Shepherd / Rottweiler mix was adopted from the Delta Community Animal Shelter at the ripe age of 10.

Although they had internal rules for adopting out “aggressive dogs” with limited time and space, Mickey won the hearts of the staff and they kept her longer than permitted.

Thankfully for us, we found her online profile with picture and called to meet her in-person.

Not only being a survivor of a toe-cancer amputation, Micks was resurrected as the God Mother of our pack.

"They have helped transform one of our rescue intakes from being terrified and reactive in kennel environments who wouldn't let any humans or other dogs near him..."
- For the Love of Danes Rescue

• ½ hr $25 lessons

Charity Auction Items.

780 frequently donates charity auction items for fundraisers - as per the whole pack's collaboration in their final wishes to gift pet necessities & goodies.

That's why 780 continues to sponsor annual online silent auctions, including, Ned's Wish, Pet Pantry, and other good causes.

Ned's Wish is dedicated to improving the quality of life of retired police dogs. They create financial support to aid in the cost of healthcare and provide education on the importance of caring for police dog retirees.

Pet Pantry strives to support rescues with food, pet toys and much more to the rescues in need. So, they may use their funding towards medical treatments and other important services needed to take care of the animals.

We also provide auction items for Stollery Children's Hospital, as we support innocent animals and children, such as, Urban Bulldogs Against Kid Abuse, all good causes.

If your team needs support without mention on our website just let us know because there are some groups that hate us. You either love 780 or despise us.

It's super easy and we don't ask for a Gift Receipt in Kind.

Contact 780 if you think we can help your group even if it's not directly related to pets.

780 invites pet guardians of the galaxy to use the link below when officially requesting auction items for successful events.

Disaster Response Aid.

780 provides animal friends temporary shelter in emergency situations, including, the 2011 Slave Lake fires, 2019 Wabasca wildfires, 2023 North West Territories fires, to present ☹

Whether natural disasters or man-made scenarios, innocent animals suffer, too.

Slave Lake Fires
The Humane Society, the Animal Rescue Committee of Slave Lake and the Second Chance Animal Rescue Society had together rescued about 250 animals from the emptied northern Alberta town.

Northern Alberta Wildfires
The Alberta Spay Neuter Task Force and Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society said 283 animals had been evacuated from the MD of Opportunity / Wabasca and Bigstone Cree Nation.

"All animals in immediate danger are now believed to have been evacuated from the area and will be transferred to boarding kennels until they can be reunited with their owners."

Learning Curves...

780's learning curve grows every day as we commit further to canines and pet guardians of the galaxy.

Legend has it 780 originally offered $1 honorary membership to police, fire, & military, until a gentleman arrived, showed a badge, and said, “I hear you support 1st responders?”

We replied ignorantly, “What's a 1st responder?” and afterwards immediately edited the website to use the new term we just learned.

Now we understand to support emergency responses as needed with land, time, and space, not just the personnel.

Most recently, it dawned on us to include all rescue pet parents and not just “dogs in the program” so we can expand help to grass root efforts.

Now we include $1 honorary membership to all rescue volunteers, fosters, and adopters.

We're not just cutting down costs, we're also adding value to rescue groups by answering the question of “Why adopt from this dog rescue in Edmonton instead of this other Edmonton dog rescue?”

Sometimes the adopters, fosters, and volunteers can't tell the difference between an authentic rescue from the pet boutique business from the backyard breeder.

Another learning curve was only offering 50% off puppy classes for adopted puppies but now include free puppy classes for fosters and 50% off for first responders.

Now we support more emergency responders, both workers and volunteers.

EMERGENCY RESPONDERS WE SUPPORT.

• Police
• Fire
• Military
• Veterans
• Volunteers
• Adopters
• Fosters
• UBAKA
• Domestic violence groups
• Public dog surrender networks

HOW WE SUPPORT EMERGENCY RESPONSES.

• Free land
• Free time
• Free space
• Free auction items
• Discounts for kennelling & obedience services
Sadly, we receive emails citing pet owner's in domestic violence scenarios seeking help.

We also receive pleas for public dog surrenders.

Some of these families just needed to meet the right dog trainer or catch a pricing break and leniency on unforeseeable pick-up dates because of the rock and hard place.

And some just needed to know that someone actually cares about them and they are not a bad person for wanting what's best for their hairy heroes.

While we don't take public surrenders, we can assist in networking, kennelling, obedience, or board & train options, rather than dog euthanasia.
